HairLoss

Are you suffering from hair loss?

Androgenic alopecia (Female Pattern Hair Loss) affects over 30 million women in the United States.

Dr Hanna is now offering a scientifically based natural office-based treatment option called Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP) for the treatment of androgenic hair loss in women.

What is Platelet Rich Plasma?

Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) is a product derived from your own blood. Blood is made up of two main parts – red blood cells and plasma. The plasma contains white blood cells and platelets. Platelets are rich in growth factors.  Injected into the scalp, growth factors help rejuvenate the scalp by stimulating the activity of the hair follicles, promoting blood flow and new hair growth.

How does the PRP injection treatment work?

Dr Hanna easily performs this procedure in her office. Her clinical staff will draw your blood and place it into a special machine called a dual spin centrifuge.  The sample is spun to separate the platelet-rich plasma from the rest of the blood.

After a topical numbing cream is placed onto the treatment area in the scalp, Dr Hanna will meticulously inject your platelet rich plasma into your scalp at the level of your hair follicles, across the entire area of hair thinning and hair loss. The procedure is relatively painless and takes about 30 minutes.

The benefit of using your own tissue virtually eliminates any allergies. Other benefits include: minimal down time, safe with minimal risk, short recovery time, and no general anesthesia required. After the procedure you may experience slight bruising and/or mild discomfort. You may also experience a slight headache.

3-4 treatments are recommended 4-6 weeks apart at first. It is then recommended a follow up treatment every 6-12 months to support continued growth, depending on your individual response.

This procedure is considered cosmetic and not covered by insurance.

Is this the right treatment for you?

There are multiple medical causes of hair loss. To determine if you are a candidate for PRP hair loss treatments, a medical consultation including ordering labs is necessary.

Causes of hair loss include:

  • HORMONAL INBALANCE (elevated Dihydrotestosterone)
  • THYROID DISORDER
  • STRESS
  • MEDICATION INDUCED - Blood-thinning medications (anticoagulants), antidepressants, beta-blockers, NSAIDS and vitamin A-based drugs (retinoid) have all been linked to thinning of the hair or baldness.
  • NUTRITIONAL DEFICIENCY: Protein, iron, zinc and biotin deficiencies, excessive levels of certain nutrients, such as vitamin A or carotene.
